A railroad passenger lost his fingers in a freak accident after a train ran over his hands.

Raju Kashyap was lucky to survive after falling into a gap between the train and the edge of the platform in a shocking incident at Suriawan Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh, India, on Wednesday.

Shocking viral footage shared online showed the moment a Mumbai-bound Kashi express train departed with the person underneath, as other commuters on the platform cried out in concern.

He was taken to a local health clinic before being referred to Varansi Hospital, reports the Times of India. It was later confirmed that he had lost fingers from his left hand and also had to receive stitches after sustaining a head injury.

Describing the incident, Janghai Junction GRP Chief Inamullah Khan told local media: "Raju slipped on the platform while trying to board a moving train. His two fingers were crushed under the wheels of the train, while at least four stitches were done to stop his bleeding from the head injury."
