A British couple have been found dead of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at their Mallorca home.

Police were alerted after a caretaker at the country home attended because her concerned son who lives in the UK was unable to contact her.

He found one of the bodies on a chair and the other in his bed.

The grim discovery was made around 4 p.m. Monday at the Selva estate at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains, considered one of the most beautiful towns on the island.

A Civil Guard source said a post-mortem inquest has yet to take place, but investigators are looking into the theory that the deaths were potentially linked to the faulty combustion of a gas heater butane or a fireplace inside the house.

Forensic specialists were still at the scene Monday evening.

The British couple, whose bodies are believed not to have been discovered for two days, have yet to be named.

Police have not yet made a formal comment and officers said the results of the autopsies will be key in determining the direction of the ongoing investigation.

The bodies are believed to have remained unidentified for at least two days.

The house where they lived is between Selva, which has about 4,000 inhabitants, and Manacor.

The mayor of Selva, Joan Rotger, told the regional television channel IB3 that the most probable hypothesis considered was that of poisoning linked to the combustion of gas.

He went to the scene on Monday as soon as he heard the news.

There were no immediate reports of signs of violence against the British...
