British Grand Prix qualifying LIVE: Lewis Hamilton withdraws as Q1 suspended

Lewis Hamilton could struggle in qualifying for the British Grand Prix this afternoon as Mercedes have fallen back over recent race weekends. The Silver Arrows initially appeared to have made progress changing their design philosophy at last month's Spanish Grand Prix, but were miles off the pace in Austria last time out and were slower than expected at Silverstone until present.

Mercedes was nowhere near Red Bull's pace on Friday, although ever-changing FP3 conditions helped Hamilton finish ahead of Verstappen in the standings. It looks like the German team will be praying for more rain this afternoon to help their hopes of climbing in order at a track where multiple teams could be in contention to qualify well.

Red Bull will undoubtedly be the favorites to claim pole position, but the defending champions will be closely followed by Ferrari and Aston Martin at the top of the pecking order. Williams, meanwhile, raised a lot of eyebrows with his impressive pace at Silverstone and will have high hopes of getting both cars into Q3 for the first time in several years.
