Bruno Fernandes set for Man Utd snob as teammates 'irritated' by behavior

Bruno Fernandes has reportedly suffered a blow to his hopes of becoming Manchester United's next permanent captain following his antics in their humiliating defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Fernandes was heavily criticized for his various displays of petulance during the defeat at Anfield, with the Portugal international shown throwing his hands in the air and lashing out at his team-mates.

And concerns about whether he is the right person to lead the team, which would have already been apparent before the game, have increased.

Fernandes wore the United armband in the absence of club captain Harry Maguire from the first XI.

Maguire is set to leave Old Trafford this summer with manager Erik ten Hag set to name a permanent successor.

But Man Utd sources have told the Daily Mail that Fernandes' teammates have "reservations about whether he has the right qualities for the job".

United players and staff "were angered by Fernandes' behavior on the pitch on Sunday.

The report continues: "The manner in which he appeared to head for the tunnel at the full-time whistle without acknowledging the remaining United fans would have been received with particular negativity."

Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has urged Ten Hag to take more drastic action against Fernandes, to break the playmaker's bad 'habit'

"Honestly, it was embarrassing. I don't just want to choose Bruno, I love Bruno as a player, but his body language, it's not the first game it was like that. And I sometimes see you arguing with players,” Evra said.

"He has this thing and he has to get rid of it. Paul Pogba had that too at Juventus, and Allegri put him on the bench because of it. Sometimes it's a habit, sometimes it's not It's not like Bruno is a bad person or anything, it's just a habit.

"I feel like no manager taught him that you can't do that. As Rio can tell you, I remember when Nani wasn't crossing the ball to Wayne [Rooney], you you remember how Wayne was screaming.

“That's when the fans started to hate Nani a bit. So me, when I see that body language, as a manager, those players won't play in my team. 'they're good, because it's disrespectful, they give up.'
