Call for participation in the 37C3 of the Chaos Computer Club

The event

The Chaos Communication Congress is the annual symposium and hacker party of the Chaos Computer Club (CCC).

For four days between Christmas and New Year, thousands of hackers, tech freaks, artists and utopians gather in Hamburg to communicate, learn from each other and party together.< /p>

The Congress is Germany's oldest IT security conference, Europe's largest gathering of hackers and has become one of the most important conferences on digital transformation. We focus on topics such as information technology, digital security, manufacturing and breaking. We engage in creative and skeptical discourse on the interplay between technology and society.

Dates & deadlines November 6, 2022 (23:59 UTC): submission deadline, November 27, 2022: Notification of acceptance, December 27 - 30, 2022: Chaos Communication Congress. Tracks

The 37C3 conferences are organized by tracks, each track is organized by a team of experts in the respective field. Please choose one of the tracks below when submitting.

Art & Beauty

The quote "you can create art and beauty with a computer" formulated by Steven Levis in 1984 in his hacker ethics is the leitmotif of the piece Art & Beauty. The focus here is on artistic practices (including literature, comics, film and audiovisual media, music, games, theatre, dance, performance and painting) that engage ( critically) to new technologies and their social impact.

We welcome submissions that use computers, coding, and networks to expand the possibilities of art; or demonstrate that the principles and practices of hacker culture contribute to constructive and unforeseen perspectives in artistic contexts. We also welcome submissions that present a theoretical reflection on the impact of new technologies on artistic practices and forms of expression.

Ethics, politics and society

The Ethics, Society and Politics course focuses on the societal, ethical and political implications of technology, and all aspects of digital life. We especially invite discussions about:

Technology and climate change, Platform regulation, Civic disobedience in the digital sphere, Emerging technologies – let's shape the unknown!

Activist, fantasy, solidarity and non-commercial ideas, concepts and stories are welcome. If you shape society and technology with positive energy, this track is for you.

Material

The Hardware track is about the development and creative use of things that allow the digital to make an impression on the physical.

On the one hand, we focus on the whole process, from the architecture, planning, creation and debugging of everything from textiles, musical instruments, robots, integrated circuits, means of transport for people and their companions, the launching of things into space, the alternative of energy supplies to medical tools - all that is practical.

On the other hand, we have to balance building new hardware with keeping the planet livable. So please tell us your stories of expanding, fixing and recovering the sovereign use of technology, and as always, we love to hear about the release of proprietary systems - from the map chip to the firmware of your toaster through a modified agricultural machine.

Of course, we're also ready for a surprise: hit us with all the things we can't imagine - and of course rockets!

Science

The multiple and intertwined crises of the present dominate the public's attention. Unfortunately, they often leave little room for a (self)critical look at the very details that are essential for good solutions. Science offers a multitude of approaches, ideas and theories that can help us all to face crises and that will accompany us in the future. Many fascinating developments combine science and technology. Artificial intelligences process medical data or provide entirely new protein structures. Quantum computing is getting closer to practical use with each passing year. The social sciences offer insight into how we live together in a changing world. The science stream offers time and space for all of these science subjects – and far beyond. Whether you work in research centers, universities or in a garage: if you explore and evaluate interesting and scientifically important developments, share your knowledge and submit a relevant presentation topic!

Security

For this track, we are looking for content demonstrating the influence of security aspects on users, machines and society. We would therefore like to request technical submissions focusing on security issues and both hardware and software solutions.
