'Capturing the Killer Nurse' Trailer: Discover the True Story Behind Serial Killer 'The Good Nurse'

How do you capture the most prolific serial killer in American history? All it takes is a whistleblower to challenge his colleague.

Jessica Chastain stars as nurse Amy Loughren, who helped take down killer Charles Cullen (Eddie Redmayne) in the Netflix drama 'The Good Nurse.' Cullen allegedly murdered up to 400 patients during his 16-year career in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Now the real Loughren is sharing her side of the story in the documentary "Capturing the Killer Nurse".

“The idea that a nurse could kill patients was very disturbing,” says Loughren in the trailer. "There are no eyewitnesses. There are no cameras."

Cullen was an experienced registered nurse at Somerset Medical Center in New Jersey. "Capturing the Killer Nurse" uses audio from Cullen himself and emotional interviews with those closest to the events - including Loughren, the detectives who solved the case, author Graeber and members of the family of the victims - to trace how Cullen was ultimately captured. According to an official synopsis, Cullen's horrific actions underscore an even greater danger that still lurks in America's healthcare system.

The documentary film is directed by Tim Travers Hawkins (“XY Chelsea”), with Robin Ockleford producing alongside executive producers Henri Singer, Susannah Price and “The Good Nurse” writer Charles Graeber.

Chastain told IndieWire that working with the "angel" Loughren was a first in the Oscar-winning actor's career.

"It was unlike anything I've ever done because I never filmed a scene of someone's life while they were watching me perform," Chastain said. “She was on the monitor. It was a very nervous and never taxing thing to do. It's a big responsibility anytime you're playing someone's story, but especially while they're watching you do it."

"The Good Nurse" isn't the only crime drama this year to land a documentary sequel. Peacock's "A Friend of the Family" series, which tells the story of the Broberg family being gassed and manipulated by their neighbor, has the documentary "A Friend of the Family: True Evil" debuting Nov. 15 on the NBCU streamer.

"Capturing the Killer Nurse" premieres November 11 on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
