Chris Pratt's Mario Voice Baffles Fans After First Listen: "Holy S—It's Literally Just Chris Pratt's Voice"

Universal Pictures and Nintendo's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" trailer has debuts, bringing with it a first listen to Chris Pratt's Mario voice. The actor told Variety earlier this year that he "worked very closely with the directors" to create Mario's perfect voice, adding, "[We tried] a few things and we stumbled upon something that I'm really proud of."

So what does Pratt's Mario voice sound like? He only gets two brief lines of dialogue in the trailer ("What's this place?" and "Mushroom Kingdom, here we come!"), but it was enough to send the social media in a craze with reactions. Many users found Pratt's Mario voice to be too similar to Pratt's own voice, which caused confusion, as the actor had previously touted the voice as "unlike anything" fans had heard before. p>

"It's an animated voice-over narrative," Pratt added to Variety< /em> about the role. "It's not a live action movie. I'm not going to wear a plumber costume everywhere. I'm giving an animated character a voice, and it's updated and unlike anything you have heard before in the world of Mario."

"I just showed the boys the Mario trailer," the film critic wrote The Telegraph Robbie Cullin. "The way they turned and looked at me when Chris Pratt's voice came through is going to make me laugh for months, if not years."

In addition to Pratt, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" also stars Charlie Day in the role of Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

Nintendo has partnered for the film with Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind films at hits like "Despicable Me". Movies "Minions" and "Sing". “The Super Mario Bros. Movie. hits theaters April 7, 2023.
