Commonwealth Games 2022: Australia stun India as Barbados beat Pakistan

Commonwealth Games Group A, Edgbaston: Australia 157-7 (19 overs) beat India 154-8 (20 overs) by three wickets - scorecard Barbados 144-4 (20 overs) beat Pakistan 129-6 (20 overs) by 15 runs - scorecard hit 48 of 33 to help India to 154-8 in Edgbaston.

Indian seamstress Renuka Singh Thakur then played with the ball, taking 4-18.

But Australia pulled themselves together after their early collapse, with Ashleigh Gardner hitting 52 from 35 to seal the victory.

Australia are world champions reigning champion in this cricket format, having beaten India in the 2020 T20 World Cup Final.

In Friday night's game, Barbados - chosen to represent the West in the dies region - beat Pakistan by 15 points.

Captain Hayley Matthews led the way in Barbados with half a century plus a wicket, catch and two outs, while teammate Kycia Knight hit an unbeaten 62.

Meanwhile, the England captain Heather Knight will miss her side's opener against Sri Lanka on Saturday with a hip injury but hopes to be fit for her second game against South Africa on Tuesday.
