Daniel Kaluuya was ready to play the full Bruce Willis for 'No': 'It's a fucking action movie'

Daniel Kaluuya definitely said yes to becoming an action star for “No.”

The Oscar-winning actor revealed in an interview with that he had action icon Bruce Willis in mind while filming Jordan Peele's latest movie, marking a reunion between the 'Get Out' cast .

“It was more about working with Jordan. Coming back and doing this with him,” Kaluuya said. “We had a lot of conversations before filming, and when I got on set I was like "Oh shit, it's a fucking action movie. Holy shit. The boldest thing to do is go, [so] let's do Bruce Willis then. Let's go for that shit."< /p>

The 'Judas and the Black Messiah' star added, "I really care about original movies and original content, and even making a movie like this with Keke Palmer in the lead, me in the lead, Jordan as a director at this level of budget and for it to be original - it's so important that this film connects.”

Kaluuya went on to discuss breaking black actor assumptions in original films like “Get Out,” adding that audiences “think we play ourselves” in dramatic roles.

The 'Black Mirror' star previously admitted that before working with writer-director Peele on 2018's 'Get Out', he considered leaving the industry.

"I was really disappointed to perform," explained Kaluuya, who recently confirmed that he won't be performing in 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'. "I had stopped acting for a year and a half. I checked out, because I was just like, it's not working. I wasn't getting roles, because racism and all that stuff – so [Peele] reaching out was like, 'Okay, I'm not crazy. It's okay. It'll be fine.'"

Peele praised Kaluuya's talent, saying, "We were looking for a black lead actor and realized that there weren't many people who had the opportunity to lead. a movie. I was so thrilled to make what the rest of the world considers a very small pool. I had at least one of the best actors I've ever seen in my movie."

"No" hits theaters on July 22. The plot centers around the spectacle of a "great American UFO story", as noted by Peele.
