Dax Tejera's wife arrested on child endangerment charges hours after ABC News producer's death, NYPD says

ABC News executive producer Dax Tejera's wife arrested on two counts of child endangerment charge within hours of his death on Dec. 23, a spokesperson for the NYPD's public information office told Variety.

Veronica Tejera was convicted of two counts of "act harmful to a child" after she turned 37 - the fatal heart attack of the one-year-old husband last week, according to a police statement.

While a specific timeline is unclear, the NYPD spokesperson said the Police responded to a 911 call at 11 p.m. that evening, reporting "unsupervised children" at 50 Vanderbilt Avenue in Manhattan. This address is home to the Yale Club, a members-only hotel. According to police, a preliminary investigation "revealed that a 2-year-old girl and a 5-month-old girl were left alone inside a hotel room for an extended period of time."

Veronica and Dax Tejera shared two children, a 5-month-old daughter and a 2-year-old daughter. The Tejeras reside in Chevy Chase, Maryland Variety attempted to reach Veronica Tejera through many channels. She did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The late Tejera was an EP on "This Week with George Stephanopoulos".

According to the NYPD statement, Veronica Tejera was given an office ticket after her arrest. An office ticket requires a person to appear in criminal court on an undisclosed future date.

The death of Dax Tejera was announced internally to ABC News on December 24 by the president of the division Kim Godwin, who noted his "energy, passion and love" for his work. He joined ABC News in 2017 as a senior producer. He then directed "This Week" in early 2020. Previously, he produced "America With Jorge Ramos".
