Director Lee Cronin Used The Necronomicons From Army Of Darkness To Help Build Evil Dead Rise

The most recent Necronomicon, which features teeth, veins, and bonds of human flesh, is a mean-looking piece of literature. The team behind "Evil Dead Rise" began working on the book early in pre-production, as they knew the Necronomicon is vital to a good "Evil Dead" story. It's also important that the book be scary enough, and franchise star Bruce Campbell announced that "Evil Dead Rise" was "all about the Necronomicon." Cronin revealed the inspiration behind this particular iteration of the Book of the Dead:

"In one of the first meetings I had with Sam Raimi, I said, 'Do you know the way in 'Army Of Darkness,' there are three [Necronomicons]? You had one, Fede had one, I'll take the other. It gave me that platform to get things done, and also to show that we live in a world where there's more than one copy of the Necronomicon. isn't exactly the same book, necessarily, that Ash had in the cabin. But it's very, very closely related. It could even be more dangerous..."

'Army of Darkness' is sometimes only hinted at in 'Evil Dead' franchise canon due to rights issues, but Cronin reveals that all three books from that film are canon in the new movie sets up the potential for all sorts of future diversions. A sequel to "Evil Dead Rise" might even feature multiple books, perhaps crossing over with the Starz series or the 2013 movie, introducing Beth to Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) and Pablo (Ray Santiago) or even Mia, if< /em>they might convince Levy to come back.
