Elon Musk called for 'Trump' to be added as a search term to identify spam accounts and bots: report

Elon Musk attempted to trick Twitter, Inc. TWTR into using the search term "Trump", believing that the name is associated with spam accounts and bots, an exchange of emails between billionaire lawyer Silpa Maruri and the social media firm showed this.

The email along with a slew of other documents were made public earlier this week in connection with Twitter's lawsuit to enforce the $44 billion deal. dollars from Musk aimed at making the company private.

Twitter attorney Bradley Wilson reportedly said his client was unconvinced of the need to search for "Trump" because the former US president's name was among many many irrelevant topics that would lead to too many searches.

The email communication also showed that Musk's legal team wanted "Bangalore" and "New Delhi" to be included in the search term as well, Bloomberg said. The request follows the revelation that Twitter sued the Indian government in a Bangalore court, challenging the former's order to block certain accounts, the report adds.

Meanwhile, Musk's lawyer claimed Twitter breached the terms of the merger agreement by not disclosing the India investigations.

A preliminary search with terms suggested by Musk's team returned around 250,000 documents, Twitter reportedly said. He therefore requested a restriction of the search terms.

Twitter closed Friday's session up 2.57% at $43.84, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
