Emmys Ratings Hit All-Time High, Viewership Drops 25% from Last Year

Nielsen data for the 2022 Emmys on NBC is here and it doesn't look good for the biggest TV night.

The award show is down 25% from last year in total viewers and reached a new audience record.

On Monday Kenan Thompson's 74th Emmy Awards received a 1.0 Adult Rating from 18 to 49, the lowest key demo stat ever for the Emmys. The previous record was set by the 2020 show, which aired on ABC, and settled for a 1.3 rating. The following year, the Emmys rebounded to 1.9.

Last night's show had 5.9 million total viewers compared to the last year's release on CBS, which grossed 7.9 million. It's a new low and in stark contrast to the 2021 show, which marked a reversal of the steady decline in Emmys viewership size. Last year's Emmy Awards saw a 16% increase in viewership from 2020's historic 12% drop to 6.37 million viewers.

The 2022 Emmy Awards aired live from 5 p.m. PT/8pm ET until 8:03pm PT/11:03pm ET and were also available to stream live on Peacock.

This year's top Emmy winners included HBO's "Succession" for the drama, "Ted Apple TV+'s Lasso" for comedy and HBO's "The White Lotus" for the anthology series. The #1 network for the 2022 Emmys was HBO/HBO Max with 38 wins.

Produced by Done+Dusted in association with Hudlin Entertainment and directed by Hamish Hamilton, the Emmys aired from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
