England cannot focus on Mbappe alone in France encounter, warns Shaw

England can't just focus on Kylian Mbappe when they face France in World Cup quarter-finals, says Luke Shaw.

Gareth Southgate's side face the Blues on Saturday after reaching the quarter-finals in comfortable fashion, with the Three Lions winning 3-0 against Senegal.

Reigning champions Didier Deschamps meanwhile defeated Poland 3-1, with Mbappe celebrating a brace and Olivier Giroud breaking the national all-time goalscoring record.

Shaw has warned that England must deal with the quality of talent at all levels rather than focusing firmly on stopping Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe, who already has five goals in Qatar 2022 under his belt.

"Obviously after his performance [against Poland] there will be more talk about him," he said. "But we know he's a world-class player.

"I think it would be very naive to just focus on him. They are reigning world champions for a reason and we have to focus on them as a whole team.

"They have brilliant players all over the pitch, so we're not going to focus entirely on him, but it's an amazing game to be in and that's why we're here."

England posted their third clean sheet of the tournament in four games against Senegal as Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka powered the Three Lions to victory.

Shaw believes this marked another step forward for the team, but stressed that they will need to be fully fired up to face their toughest opponent yet.

"I think we're really happy with the win, another clean sheet of course," he added. “We were more clinical in front of goal. We also defended well, not too many chances for them.

"In the first half a few sloppy passes put [us] under pressure, but other than that overall I think it's a solid performance. He has to give us confidence and believe.< /p>

"We have to be 100% to win this game, and we know that. I think we have to go to a higher level because France are a very good team."
