Five British nationals held by Russian-backed forces have been returned unharmed, according to Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Britons captured in Ukraine were released following mediation by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Among those Britons is Aiden Aslin who has been sentenced to death, according to Health Secretary Robert Jenrick.

Brit Shaun Pinner was also reportedly freed, along with US citizens Alexander Drueke, 39, and Andy Huynh, 27.

The group was photographed loading into Riyadh airport this evening after their release.

The families of the free men have spoken of their release after months of living in a nightmare.

Shaun's sister Cassandra told the MailOnline: 'I'm so relieved that my brother and the others will be home tomorrow.

"It's been hell for everyone, but the worry can finally end for us.

"We must not forget all that is still happening in Ukraine, but for now our families can celebrate that our boys are home!"

In June, Aslin was one of two British men captured by Russian forces before appearing in court in the self-declared People's Republic of Donetsk, a breakaway region in eastern Ukraine.
