Curator George Osborne has suggested a 'much larger' group of children should be given free school meals to give campaigners a boost.

The former welfare slasher has blasted his party's 'conservative dance' as it refuses calls - including from the Mirror - to extend meals to more children in need.

TV chef Jamie Oliver today said parents struggling to feed their children face 'chaos'. And former Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair added that it was "absolutely fundamental" to focus on children's health.

Mirror's Free School Meals for All campaign calls on the government to provide free school meals to all primary school pupils in England.

In a big boost, Westminster Council – which Labor won from the Tories in May – announced that all children in state-funded local primary schools would be eligible.

Separately, many campaigners, including Jamie Oliver and the government's food czar, Henry Dimbleby, want meals extended specifically to all children on Universal Credit.

Around 800,000 children whose families claim UC are not eligible because the household must earn less than £7,400 a year.
