Gotham Awards Live Stream: How to Watch the Annual Independent Film Awards

With the fall festivals behind us and the Oscar nominations fast approaching, awards season is officially in full swing. But for many, the official kickoff to the season will still be the Gotham Awards. One of the biggest showcase premieres for the best independent movies of the year, the Gotham Awards are set to take place tonight at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Although only films with budgets under $35 million are eligible, the event is a key battleground for smaller films hoping to stand out from the field in their pursuit of Oscar gold.

Competition will be fierce, with arthouse behemoths such as 'TÁR' and 'Aftersun' battling indie blockbusters like 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' for the top prizes. Notably, the acting categories aren't separated by gender, so Oscar favorites like Cate Blanchett and Brendan Fraser will have to compete in the Outstanding Performance category. The Outstanding Supporting Performance category might be even more contested, as most of the “Women Talking” cast are nominated alongside critical favorites like Bryan Tyree Henry for “Causeway” and Ke Huy Quan for “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” .

While the awards mainly focus on film, television is not completely excluded. Major series like "Severance" and "Yellowjackets" compete for Breakthrough Series - Long Format, while Emmy darling "Abbott Elementary" leads the pack in the Short Format category.
