A jogger left a haunting last Instagram post before she was killed in a freak accident when she was hit head-on by a car.

Athlete Sara Bartoli, 30, was training in San Casciano in the Val di Pesa near Florence, Italy, shortly before sunset on July 27.

But as she was running, a car driven by a 38-year-old man - not named in local media - rammed into her.

The man told police he did not see the rider because glare from the setting sun on his windshield obscured his view.

He stopped immediately and he and his passenger tried to help him.

But Sara died of multiple injuries before paramedics could get her to the hospital.
