Cargo will premiere the film in New York and Los Angeles on December 9.

"Hidden Letters" follows two millennial Chinese women bound by their passion for Nushu, a women's secret language that for centuries allowed women to communicate in private without men understanding their correspondence.

Although practices like foot binding are long gone, the film shines a light on the struggle continues contemporary millennial women forging their own paths in today's patriarchal climate of China, and the value of a sisterhood that can support them along the way. This timely film focuses on how women's communication networks remain an important lifeline in the world today, with Gloria Steinem calling it a "deep and powerful rebellion".

Campaigning, outreach and marketing of the film is supported by the change-making community of Asia and the Pacific Islands, Gold House, which is co-hosting a December 9 screening at Landmark's Quad Cinema in New York City.

The film features original music by Grammy-nominated singer Leona Lewis. "As a female artist, I fell in love with this story. Using art to build global sisterhood and elevate women's voices is so important to me. I loved co-composing some of the beautiful tape original and I hope the story will touch your heart like mine,” Lewis said.

Du Feng's film credits include producing "Dear Mother, I Wanted To Write About Death" , "Singing in the Wilderness," "Confucian Dream," "Maineland," and "Please Remember Me." She is a 2018 Sundance Creative Production Fellow.

Du Feng said, "I knew I wanted to tell a contemporary story, connect Nushu to the state of women's experiences in today's China With the rise of a global pushback for women's rights, my heart is filled with joy as I see how the resistance and wisdom that Nushu once represented is embraced by the audiences around the world."
