How should Sandman season 2 adapt one of comics' trickiest stories?

“Season of Mists,” the fourth volume in the series, begins with Dream realizing he may have been wrong to send his girlfriend to hell for 20,000 years just because she broke up with him . He decides to travel to Hell to save her, knowing full well that he might not come back from the trip in one piece. There's a lot of preparation for Lucifer to have a grand plan for revenge against Dream, but in the end, all he really wants is a break. Lucifer abandons his role as ruler of Hell, shuts down the place, and goes off to wander and have fun in the mortal world. (Yes, it turns out that was an option the entire time.)

The rest of "Season of Mists" is about Dream saving Nada, and he and all the other mythical beings also trying to figure out how to handle the whole hell situation. There's also a wonderful side story in the middle, where a young boarder is trapped during the holidays at a school full of old spirits escaped from hell.

The fifth volume, "A Game of You," centers on Barbie, a minor character from "A Doll's House" who viewers will remember from Season 1. Before Rose's dream vortex prevented Barbie to dream, she used to dream of a magical fantasy land, a land where the characters within continue to live even when she is awake. In his absence, the world has been taken over by an evil creature from the dream realm called Cuckoo. With the help of her friends and neighbors (one of whom turns out to be a witch), Barbie returns to Neverland in her dream of ending Cuckoo's reign once and for all.
