Jasprit Bumrah: Indian bowler ruled out of T20 World Cup

The 28-year-old, one of the best bowlers in the world, recently retired from the T20 series of India against South Africa with a back problem.

India claims that the decision was made after "a detailed evaluation and in consultation with the specialists".

They are considered the 'one of the favorites for the tournament which starts later this month.

India are already deprived of the versatile Ravindra Jadeja, who suffers from a right knee injury.

A replacement for Bumrah will be announced "soon", the Board of Control for Cricket in India has said, with Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar the other pace bowlers on their reserve roster.

BCCI did not specify Bumrah's injury but The International Cricket Council called it a back stress fracture .

India's first World Cup game is against rivals Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23.

Preliminary phase of the tournament begins on October 16 before the main game the group stage will follow from October 22.

England's opening match is on October 22 against England. Afghanistan to Perth.
