Jofra Archer: England fast bowler extends contract with Sussex

Jofra Archer bowls during training with England

The 28-year-old missed the entire summer at home due to a stress fracture in his right elbow.

However, he trained with England on Tuesday, raising hopes he could still make it to the Cricket World Cup as a reserve for the front-row team.

Archer won 181 first-class wickets since joining Sussex in 2016 and making his Test debut in 2019.

He was a member of the 2019 World Cup winning team, beating the super in the thrilling Lord's final when England lifted the trophy for the first time by beating New Zealand.

Archer took 42 Test wickets at an average of 31.04 in 13 appearances for England, but did not not played a Test since February 2021 due to elbow and back injuries.

He returned to play in limited tours of South Africa and Bangladesh this year, but the elbow problem resurfaced in May and ruled him out of this summer's Ashes series.

The duration of his new contract at Hove is not disclosed.

"I'm delighted that Jofra has extended his stay at Sussex and we're all really looking forward to seeing him play again," said Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace.

"He is a fantastic professional and a great person to have on the team when he is with us."
