Joseph Quinn Reflects on 'Stranger Things' Heroic Arc, That Metallica Solo and Eddie's Ending

SPOILER ALERT: Don't read if you haven't watched Season 4 of 'Stranger Things', currently streaming on Netflix.

Joseph Quinn had no idea what Eddie Munson's plan was when he joined Netflix's 'Stranger Things', but he knew he was thrilled to be a part of a show he'd been watching for years. season 1.

"I was told very little at first," Quinn, 29, tells Variety. "The Duffer Brothers told me I would be in at least four episodes, but I didn't have an option for another season, so I thought maybe if I did well, they could invite back. It didn't work out, clearly! So they killed me, but that's okay I guess. I'll dust myself off!"

Little did he know that the bad boy frontman of the heavy metal-obsessed "Hellfire Club" would become a fan favorite. He would also have an epic performance that would have everyone talking.

In the Season 4 finale, in order to distract the protesters, Eddie and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) plan a metal gig - and for a while, it actually works. The scene consists of Eddie standing on his trailer in the Upside Down, absolutely crushing the instrumental version of Metallica's "Master of Puppets".

"I was lucky to have learned the guitar when I was younger, so I had the basics. I was by no means a virtuoso, but when it came time to film it , I was able to pull it off," Quinn explains. "We had some sort of black belt heavy metal guitarist that walked us through the solo, because that wasn't going to happen! I couldn't do that. , but I could do the rest, which is lucky. It was an incredible experience."

Music Supervisor and that Metallica was very happy with it. “Joseph took time to learn the guitar riff and was actually playing on a guide track,” she says. "Everyone thought he did a great job."

It was also a special experience for those who were on set. “For much of the team, it was the first time we all felt like we were in a live music environment since the pandemic began,” says Quinn. "It was a lot of fun being able to do that with Gaten."

Although Quinn is 10 years older than Matarazzo, it wasn't hard at all to bond with him, which was evident on screen.

"It's pretty easy if you really like the person," Quinn says. "He's a lovely man and a brilliant actor, and I really appreciate the time we spent together on these stages until the last - and the last itself. It was a real privilege." Lazy loaded image
