We have seen an increase of the number of teenage girls using skin care… prematurely using anti-aging products and increasingly valuing beauty and looking young. Access to social media will have a big influence here. TikTok, in particular, has millions of videos dedicated to this topic and we are starting to see the younger generations of influencers emerge: it is now the children of the Kardashian family who share skincare routines online.

Kantar data tells us that teens are specifically using social media for skincare and makeup recommendations. So they have access to this information whether it's appropriate or not.

Another factor is the in-store experience. The opportunity to try samples, products that stand out on the shelf and pleasant smells are determining factors for young people when choosing skin care. Brands like Drunk Elephant and Sol de Janeiro are currently viral among this demographic, and if you look at the products you'll see why they would appeal to younger people.

Why are young people more interested in anti-aging products? Social media is a big factor. Everything tends to be as beautiful as possible. This pressure now exists in marketing, and social media massively influences how we view ourselves. If people see perfect skin and perfect routines, they are more likely to follow them.
