Keir Starmer says Britons fighting in Ukraine must be treated 'with care'

Keir Starmer said the British were offering "all kinds of support" to the Ukrainians on the ground after they made a surprise trip to Kyiv.

The government advises against traveling to Ukraine, saying such activities could constitute 'offences' under UK law.

When asked on BBC Radio 2's Jeremy Vine if it was 'good for the Brits to come out to fight', Mr Starmer replied: 'I think a lot of Brits come out to offer all kinds of supports.< /p>

"Some of them we saw yesterday and this morning.

"Obviously if people go out to fight, it has to be done very carefully because you have the Ukrainian forces there.

"They are disciplined, they are professional, they work according to a strategic plan and nothing should be done to stop them.

"So Ukraine wants all the support it can get, but nothing that undermines its strategy, its tactics."

Mr. Starmer highlighted the strength of Ukraine's military and insisted on its demands for weapons, training - and ultimately justice in the face of Russia's horrific war crimes.

The Labor leader said: "As we approach the first anniversary, I remember at the time it was expected that the Russians would take kyiv within a week.

"And that obviously, the position has completely changed, through the strategy and tactics of the Ukrainian forces and I don't think anything has to come through that.

"What they want is reinforcements, better training of their own people and the weaponry that goes with it.

"If I have taken away anything from this horrific evidence of atrocities in the outskirts of Kyiv, it is this sense of justice that someone should be tried for the atrocities, the coward...
