Liz Truss' leadership hung by a thread Wednesday night amid resignations, U-turns and demands to leave.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman resigned and urged the clumsy prime minister to 'accept responsibility for mistakes'.

And a host of MPs condemned to vote in a fracking poll refused.

A Tory said Ms Truss had 'hours not days' left in power, adding: 'It's Armageddon'. It all happened as inflation soared.

On a day of chaos, Suella Braverman was sent off for breaking the rules, one of No10's top aides was suspended and a sixth backbench MP demanded Ms Truss's resignation.

But she replaced her with former Home Secretary Grant Shapps, one of the clumsy Prime Minister's main critics.

A fracking poll also descended into shambles after a group of Tories vowed to rebel as MPs were roughed up in the chamber to vote for the government.

Some, including Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg, have been accused of yelling at colleagues.

There was confusion over whether Chief Whip Wendy Morton and her deputy Craig Whittaker had resigned over the fracking fiasco.

Last night a senior Tory official claimed Ms Truss had 'hours not days' in power, adding: 'It's Armageddon.'
