Downing Street has faced questions about the position of Mark Fullbrook following revelations that he was questioned by officers as a witness to an alleged criminal plot to bribe a US politician and influence a US election.

A spokesperson for Mr Fullbrook said he is 'committed to complying with all laws and regulations of any jurisdiction in which he works and is confident he has done so in this matter ".

The political strategist, who led Ms. Truss's leadership campaign, did not travel to New York with the Prime Minister for the UN General Assembly this week.

A spokeswoman for the Prime Minister said: 'It is actually not unusual for Chiefs of Staff to remain in Downing Street.

"There's a lot of government business this week, in fact it's more unusual for them to attend and not stay in Downing Street to oversee that work."

Asked if the PM was 100% behind her chief of staff after the revelations, the spokeswoman replied, "Yes."

Asked if Ms. Truss had any doubts about her past activities, she said: 'I'm not going to talk about individuals.

"As this predates his political role, a spokesperson for Mark has commented on this information, I won't add anything. But as I said, he has his full support."< /p>
