Conservative leadership race: Liz Truss insists U-turn on regional wage policy shows she is 'decisive'

Rishi Sunak insisted that there would be no point in to steer clear of Tory leadership rival Liz Truss, despite several polls putting the Foreign Secretary sharply ahead the former chancellor.

The two candidates aired their divergent views on a range of policies in another live debate, as opposition parties called on Ms Truss to face a ‘dirty’ investigation into an apparent failure to declare thousands of pounds donated to an event where she dredged up Tory MPs in her leadership bid.

Labour have appealed to the Cabinet Secretary, and the Liberal Democrats have written to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, asking her to open an investigation into the financing of a welcome event, including champagne, attended by a dozen Tory MPs.

The Independent has revealed how it failed to declare the thousands of pounds invested in the 'Fizz with Liz' dinner, despite MPs being forced to disclose hospitality worth over £300 .
