Looking Back: Alex's Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2022 - Laundry and Taxes

Alex's Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2022

"Of all the places I could be, I just want to be here with you." Another year, another Top 10. After watching over 400 movies throughout 2022 (always save everything to my mailbox) it's time to share my final selection of My Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2022. I try to watch as much as I can and give myself time to catch up on the extra movies at the end of the year, but my favorites may come from any time in 2022. The one that stood out to me throughout the year was Everything, Everywhere, All At Once - I believe truly it's an all stopwatch, on par with The Matrix in terms of technical innovation and dynamic storytelling. I went to see him four times at the cinema and I knew that nothing would make him lose the first place. A few of my other favorite films come from the many film festivals I attend throughout the year. Anything that really grabs me, connects deeply with me, brings out emotions, and visually wows me is usually what I crave above all else.

For the previous year's 2021 Top 10 list, topped by Ben Sharrock's Limbo, click here (+2020 here). Also check out my selection of favorite movie posters of 2022 with a look at some of the best art movies.

A few notes: this is a list of my favorite movies, not the best movies of the year, these are the ones I like for my own reasons and I'll try to explain why with everyone. As always, I wish I had a lot more time to watch/rewatch movies and see all the latest movies that aired in 2020, but that's impossible, so that's exactly what I decided to do. Also - my selection of films is based on when I originally saw the film at a public event, including film festivals (Venice, Sundance) or limited or unrestricted public releases. It's not based solely on movies released in 2022, but on those I've experienced in 2022, and it's a good representation of the best cinema we've been given, in my opinion . I'm always a bit shy to share these picks, but these are really movies that I love.

#1. Everything Everywhere Everything at Once directed by Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert

Anywhere Anything Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once is an irrefutable masterpiece. It's one of the best movies of the entire decade - yes, seriously. Not a single flaw in it. There are at least 4 iconic fights in this one (or more?!). No matter how many times I look at them, I am always impressed by how cool and cool they are. The rules of combat of the fanny pack. His first escapist moment "I know martial arts" is exhilarating. The chant + riot shield fight is glorious. The butt plug battle is hilarious. And the "fight with love" showdown at the end on the stairs is so beautiful. I especially like how even the stunt team is part of the cast, appearing again and again in every fight. I could go on raving about the smallest details of this film, everything is perfection. The entire cast is superb - Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn, Stephanie Hsu as Joy, Ke Huy Quan as Waymond, James Hong as Gong Gong and Jamie Lee Curtis as the Crazy Tax Lady could all win Oscars and I would be completely satisfied. It was a particularly exhilarating experience to watch this in theaters, whenever the audience was so caught up in it, and that made it all the more endearing. EEAAO is THE film of the year.

#2. Decision to Leave directed by Park Chan-wook

Decision to leave

This is the cutest movie love story of 2022! These two! They are intended...
