Man United manager rules out big spending in near future

Manchester United spent nearly €250m this summer, signing defenders Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia, winger Antony, midfielder Casemiro, as well as Christian Eriksen on a free transfer and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle.

After starting their debut season under Erik ten Hag with two defeats, United bounced back with four straight triumphs, and there have recently been reports suggesting the club have prepared a further £100m to spend on reinforcements in January. However, the club's director of football, John Murtough, has ruled out such spending in the near future.

"Overall, we are ahead of our recruiting plans as expected in the early summer and do not expect the same level of activity in future windows," Murtough said , quoted by Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, United have announced a loss of £115.5million for the 2020/21 season, with their players' wages reaching £384.2million, surpassing the Premier League record previously held by Manchester City.
