Man Utd 'reach decision on Antoine Griezmann swap' as Cristiano Ronaldo saga continues

Manchester United have ruled out a swap deal involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann at this stage, according to reports. The Red Devils No. 7 wants to leave Old Trafford for a team playing in the Champions League. And, despite his past at Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid have emerged as potential suitors for the striker.

Manchester United saw Ronaldo return to Carrington on Tuesday after the veteran missed his pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

He arrived with his agent, Jorge Mendes, before meeting with the likes of Richard Arnold, John Murtough and Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo's position, however, remains unchanged. He had never played in the Europa League and, at 37, has no intention of starting now as he enters the twilight years of his career.

And confirmed Atletico's interest in a deal.

It is claimed that United also know that Griezmann is available, although it is a rather complex situation.

Atletico are set to permanently buy the France international next summer, with the World Cup winner currently on loan from La Liga rivals Barcelona.

But Ronaldo is "unlikely" to take part in this game as he has only just returned to Manchester.

It is also said that there are doubts whether Ronaldo will be involved in the upcoming games against Aletico and Rayo Vallecano.

And whether he gets his wish to move is, ultimately, something only time will tell.

Meanwhile, speaking to Genting Casino, former United star Jaap Stam called on his side to clarify Ronaldo's situation as soon as possible.

"Well, you don't want to have too much confusion within the team right away, especially when you start as a new manager," he said.

"You are working with one of the best players in the world. He is doing very well, scoring a lot of goals last season.

"I was hoping that Ronaldo would stay because I think he could be very important for the club.

"I think Ronaldo is still one of the best players at United. Even when he's not scoring, he's still paying attention to the opposition and they still have to give him a lot of attention, which creates opportunities and space for other players.

"I guess ten Hag told him about the new season. I don't know exactly what happened, but it seems that Ronaldo wants to move on and play somewhere else next season, which I find a shame.< /p>

"If the player has said that he wants to leave, even if it is very difficult for the manager and for the club and especially for the fans, then the situation does not need to drag on for so long.

"United need to make a decision as a club and find a way to manage his departure. The manager needs to build his team and understand who he will be working with.

"United don't want to be in a situation where they use other players up front, and those players who played are all of a sudden dropped because Ronaldo didn't make it and he need to play."
