Manchester United wanted to sign Chelsea's Timo Werner ahead of his return to RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window, according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk. The well-known and respected journalist has claimed that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to work with the Germany international striker but hopes to join his former club RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga instead.

Werner struggled to score during his time at Chelsea and couldn't make a huge impact at Stamford Bridge. The striker arrived in England with a solid reputation as a goalscorer, but he simply failed and was often dismissed due to his lack of impact in the middle.

RB Leipzig will be aiming to challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title this season, and returning to his former club could help Werner get back to his best.
