Millions of workers are getting a 'massive pay cut' disguised as a raise - find out if you're one

Britain is bracing for the summer of discontent to get even hotter after the Tories unveiled a 'massive nationwide pay cut' for more than 2 million public sector workers.

Railway staff, postal workers and lawyers had already walked off their salaries - and now they could be joined by NHS workers and teachers.

Tonight the government unveiled several new style pay rises, where instead of a percentage increase, staff will receive a cash lump sum.

But for millions of workers, that's about 4-5% - a massive reduction in real terms as CPI inflation climbs to 9.1% and RPI rises above 11%.

No10 argued for "fiscal discipline to ensure we protect taxpayers, manage public spending effectively and don't drive up inflation".

But even the meager increase in NHS wages could lead to cuts - as sources have confirmed to the Mirror, there will be no additional money from the Treasury.

The Ministry of Health has admitted that it is “reprioritizing within existing departmental funding while minimizing the impact on frontline services”.

After real NHS wages fell by 15% since 2010, Laurence Turner of the GMB union lambasted: 'Below inflation offer is a cut by any other name.'

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said it was "a kick in the teeth", adding: "The so-called wage offer amounts to a massive national wage cut.

"We expected the inevitable betrayal, but its magnitude is an affront."
