'New Prime Minister Liz Truss is eager to make life worse for black Britain'

We should be worried, says Darren Lewis, with new Prime Minister promising to take a tougher line on immigration and threatening to stoke the culture wars

I'm worried. Not about Prince Charles editing The Voice, seizing on a naive open lens presented to him to curry undeserved favor with Britain's biggest black newspaper.

Most people see this through, given his failure to provide substantial public support for his sons Harry and Meghan Markle.

I'm also not worried about Rishi Sunak's hurt feelings. Especially after the former chancellor sold his soul during the hustings.

Find out about his shameful and reprehensible 'gags' about his 'tan' (yes, really) to try and sideline the hard-right Tories, only to fail in his bid to become Prime Minister.

I'm mostly worried about Liz Truss. The hand puppet gave the keys to the most prestigious office in the country. The woman who, in her acceptance speech, brushed aside any ideas that she could end the most polarizing period in British politics for decades.

I'm concerned that in the hustings, Truss made it clear that on race and racism she was really Boris Johnson's continuity contender. More.

Forget the idea that she could be more centrist, like Blair and Cameron, to even try to keep voters floating on board.

Truss has already promised to take an even tougher line on immigration. She will make life even more difficult for Black Britain. She promised hardliners in the Conservative Party that she would.

She has some seriously heinous promises she needs to keep.

This is what she said during the election campaign about sending migrants to Rwanda. “Rwandan policy is the right policy. I am committed to completing the full implementation, as well as exploring other countries we can work with on similar partnerships. It's the right thing to do."

She also went further, promising to increase frontline border staff by 20%. Striking Rwandan style deals with more countries.

Also don't kid yourself with the illusion that by surrounding himself with people like Suella Braverman, Kwasi Kwarteng and other non-white people, Truss will have a diverse cabinet in a positive sense.

How is this possible when Braverman and Kwarteng want to make life difficult for other Blacks and Asians?

They are gatekeepers, happy to normalize racism and see the rest of us as pawns to be sacrificed in their bid to earn brownie points and fuel culture wars.

They are happy to champion policies that slander young black men. Also to reject trainings to educate people about other cultures. What's there to celebrate about it?

What child will find inspiration in a black or Asian minister of state (Kwarteng could become the first black chancellor) when they see him and his parents as a problem for this country?

The Truss administration is threatening to do just that.

May God help us.
