2023 Census: Some Nigerians refuse to be counted – NPC
The National Population Commission (NPC) has said some Nigerians are reluctant to be counted for the 2023 census.
On Friday in Ebonyi, the APN listed this among the challenges facing the commission.
Federal Commissioner Darlington Okereke provided an update on the implementation of the experimental population and housing census.
The official assured that the commission would do things right during the main census.
Okereke said training of officials and massive advocacy were among the strategies adopted.
Ninety enumerators and nine supervisors participated in the trial census - house numbering and household listing - from July 13-15.
Okereke said the challenges were the absence of household members to enumerate, the outright refusal of some people, and poor accommodation by officials.
"We will redefine the strategy on continuous public education and the formation of the Ebonyi census publicity committee, among others," he promised.
