52nd independence: Bangladesh and Nigeria to deepen cooperation in agriculture and ICT

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Mr. Masudur Rahman, has expressed his country's desire to deepen cooperation with Nigeria in the fields of agriculture, textiles and information technology and communication (ICT).

Rahman said this recently in Abuja at a reception to mark the 52nd independence and National Day celebration of Bangladesh.

He said that given the uniqueness between the two countries in terms of demographics and diplomatic activities, Nigeria and Bangladesh needed to further strengthen their cooperation on all fronts.

“Bangladesh and Nigeria, having enormous synergies in demography, colonial heritage, democratic and secular traditions and diplomatic activities under the aegis of the United Nations and its specialized organs, l The OIC, the D-8 and the Commonwealth, are set to deepen our existing bilateral cooperation.

“The two countries plan to expand their cooperation in the areas of agriculture, education, communications and digital economy, export-oriented sectors such as garments/textiles, SMEs , including defense training and exchanges,” he said.

Rahman also stressed the need to explore other areas of untapped potential and mutual interest. "I hope that Bangladesh and Nigeria will do more to harness the huge unexplored potential existing in the two countries and their peoples, to elevate bilateral cooperation to the next level of incentivized trade and business," he said. -it added.

The envoy paid tribute to the visionary leadership of the “father of the nation”, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, for his struggle for independence and for having bequeathed an independent and prosperous nation to his people.

He noted that the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, had gradually transformed the country into a digital middle-income developing country from where it was at independence.

He said the country is on track to achieve all the SDGs and transform the country into an upper middle income country by 2030.

The High Commissioner therefore called on the international community to continue its partnership with Bangladesh in its quest for rapid development.
