ASP Ahmed Yusuf was abducted five days ago from his house in Oloje district of Ilorin exactly on October 11, 2022 at around 10:00 p.m. by six armed thugs.

A statement from Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Okasanmi Ajayi in Ilorin said the kidnapping victim was rescued at around 2.30am today (Sunday) at a bush border between the Kwara and Oyo States.

The PPRO, which said the rescue efforts were made possible by local hunters, vigilance groups and men from the police command, added that the ASP is currently undergoing a medical and would be cleared to join his family as soon as he is fit, confirmed by the police doctor.

“The rescue efforts were made possible at the insistence of Kwara State Police Commissioner, CP Paul Odama psc (+) who said the rescue of the kidnapped officer unharmed and the eventual arrest of the criminal kidnappers is a task that must be accomplished.

"As a result, CP dispatched the command tactical teams, local Vigilant and fighters with the support of Amotekun squad from Oyo State.

"The combined team's efforts paid off as the kidnappers escaped and abandoned the abducted ASP under heavy pressure to be arrested, when they discovered the teams had formed a circle around their location. The victim subsequently ambled to where the police crews were waiting for him and was rescued.

"CP Paul Odama psc (+) would like to appreciate the efforts of the police and vigilance teams for the bravery displayed in the efforts that ultimately led to the rescue of the ASP.

"The CP noted that its determination to make Kwara State uninhabitable for criminal elements still stands and that Kwara State would never be permitted to host criminal elements of any nomenclature.< /p>

“The ASP is currently undergoing a medical examination and will be allowed to join his family as soon as he is confirmed fit by the police doctor.

"In the meantime, efforts are intensifying to have the kidnappers arrested for prosecution."
