Assault: Seun Kuti detained, handcuffed, grilled by the police

Lagos State Police Command has finally arrested Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, for assaulting a police officer.

Lagos State Police Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin revealed in an official statement on his Twitter account that Seun was arrested in the early hours of Monday, May 15, 2023, when he returned to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, with his lawyer and family representative.

The declaration reads; “SERIOUS ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER: SEUN KUTI GETS INDEPENDENT. Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti visited the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja in the early hours of today with his lawyer and family representative. He was taken into custody in accordance with the law.

"The Command appreciates the public's concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be thorough, transparent and professionally conducted; and justice will clearly be served for all parties involved.

Recall that The PUNCH reported that Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba ordered Seun's arrest after a video of the musician assaulting a police officer surfaced online.
