Kane Williamson: New Zealand batsman kicked out of IPL with knee injury

Kane Williamson

The 32-year-old was injured in defending champions Gujarat Titans' first win on Friday against Chennai Super Kings.

He jumped up to stop a six near the boundary but landed awkwardly and fell to the ground holding his knee.

It is unclear whether his injury will cause him to miss the ICC World Cup in India, which starts in October.

"Preparations are underway for him to return to New Zealand next week and be seen by competent medical specialists to establish a treatment plan,” New Zealand Cricket said.

Gujarat cricket manager Vikram Solanki said a replacement would be announced in due course.

"It's sad to lose Kane to injury so early in the tournament. We wish him a speedy recovery, with the hope of seeing him in action very soon,” he said.
