Atiku in the Plateau: Promises to restore peace, improve economic activities

People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has pledged to restore peace and improve mining activities in Plateau State.

Atiku made the pledge on Tuesday at his party's presidential rally in Jos. He said that if elected, his administration will oversee the reconstruction of federal highways connecting the Plateau and other neighboring states.

Atiku was in Jos to woo voters in next year's presidential election.

"Despite Plateau State's strategic position in the countryside, the roads connecting it to other parts of the country have become deadly and impassable traps.

"In fact, even the contract awarded for the upgrading of Abuja - Akwanga - Lafia - Makurdi roads ignored Plateau State despite the potential of the state. This too will be visited by the PDP government if it is elected in 2023. Other roads such as Lafia – Shendam road will also be rehabilitated to improve trade,” he pledged.

On the insecurity in the state, the presidential candidate said “if the people of the Plateau want peace, they should vote PDP. We promise you that we will restore peace to the Plateau.”

Atiku said he would restore the potential for tourism and other economic activities in the Plateau.

"Plateau was renowned for its good weather and ambiance, a potential that could generate millions of dollars for the benefit of the people and the economy of the state, if exploited.

"Our government, working hand in hand with the state government, would strive to improve tourism nationwide in order to increase internally generated revenue and improve the lot of the population," he said.

"In our attempt to unleash the full potential of this beautiful state, we will be revisiting the Kura Falls Power Station, we elders here recall in the not-distant past how this power station served the entire state Plateau and beyond but that is not the story now as the electricity bombings are back even in this beautiful city of Jos. The PDP will seek to improve all opportunities for development, expand the governance and improve service delivery.

"My brave people of Plateau State, I have said it before and I will say it again, I will raise $10 billion to empower the youth, women, physically disabled and vulnerable people in our society, if elected," he said. added.

In his remarks, PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu said that the PDP is the people's party and the people of Plateau State should continue to vote for it for peace and social development. He urged voters to vote for all PDP candidates.
