Angry residents of a small Cornish town have blasted the arrival of a huge cruise ship which has risen the local population by 50% that day. .

The 58,000 tonne Spirit of Adventure cruise ship stopped in Fowey, Cornwall on Friday. While some admired her size, others were unhappy when the 775ft vessel docked at Fowey Harbour.

Local residents said on social media that the ship was arriving in the city. was "awful" and "should not be allowed". Some also pointed to the impact of the fumes pumped into the air by the Spirit of Adventure on air quality in the coastal town.

This comes after it was revealed that residents of Fowey are being evicted from their homes due to an influx of second home buyers , which has sent house prices soaring by more than £100,000 in just one year, according to The Sunday Times.

Just three years ago, residents of the coastal town voted to ban the sale of new construction as second homes during of a referendum, adding fuel to the fire in the long-running dispute between local residents and owners of second homes.
