Banksy exhibition in Glasgow draws record crowds

An exhibition by graffiti artist Banksy at Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art attracted 180,000 visitors over its 10-week run.

Gallery bosses say the artist's first official solo exhibition in 14 years has broken box office records.

The exhibit, which ends on Monday, was also open overnight on weekends.

A message on the 'Cut and Run' exhibition website says: "thank you Glasgow, that was awesome".

The exhibition was a behind-the-scenes look at Banksy's creative process, with original sketches on display as well as stencils, which were painted on to breathe new life into them. of life.

Banksy has not given a face-to-face interview since 2003 and has never revealed his true identity, but he believed to be around 50 and from the Bristol area.

Gareth James, Director of the Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art, said: "Cut & Run has welcomed a new and diverse audience, from primary school children to octogenarians, from all walks of society and from all four corners of the world.

"Every day we open our doors to lines of hundreds of people waiting for walk-in tickets.

"Free community tickets and night opening hours have extended the reach of the museum far beyond our usual reach."

Visitors were prohibited from using any form of camera at the exhibition but Mr James said that was no problem.
