Chinese stars are returning to the fashion calendar in droves

PARIS – With China reopening from January 8, Chinese stars, influencers, buyers and the press are back on the fashion calendar in droves this season.

While New York and London Fashion Weeks didn't see many appearances, their presence was certainly felt in Milan and Paris. It is estimated that more than 30 Chinese publishers came to Paris, and almost all of the top influencers were present, such as Thomas Ye, professionally known as Gogoboi; Mr. Bags Tao Liang; Anny Fan and Yuyu Zhangzou.

Chinese stars also came out strong. At Gucci, brand ambassador and singer Chris Lee sat next to Francois-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of the Kering Group, and his wife Salma Hayek, while Chinese actor Xiao Zhan, known for having an army of dedicated fans in China, were chatting with Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri, who sat next to him at the show.

"I'm very impressed with the decor of the show. It was contemporary, like a space The music and lighting are super cool too,” Lee said after the show.

Xiao also made a splash at Tod's, where he is also a brand ambassador. He released two capsule collections with the Italian label during the pandemic to create buzz in China. Members of his fan club came out to support and cheer him on outside of the show. In an Instagram post, an editor can be heard saying, “This is crazy. I've never seen anything like it."

The Chinese actor said he visited the Duomo di Milano and walked around the neighborhood between shows. He also ate pizza and he is a fan of cheese.
