Corrupt politicians angry at new naira policy – Secondus

A former People's Democratic Party national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, has alleged that corrupt politicians and voter-buyers are behind the call to suspend the deadline for the expenditure of old naira notes.< /p>

He also alleged that there were politicians who may have stored millions of old naira notes in their homes to bribe voters with during elections.

Secondus, who spoke to our correspondent on the phone, urged Nigerians to beware of those who he said claimed to be fighting for the masses.

He called on Nigerians to support the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired) in his drive to rid the country of election riggers and corrupt politicians.

He said, “If there is one policy of President Buhari that deserves support, it is the new naira policy. Although we all know that the president has not done well since taking office, the idea behind the new naira policy deserves support.

“It will rid the country of corruption because those who use money to bribe voters will not be allowed to do so. Next, the policy will also help banks track the movement of money between accounts.

"It should not be thought that politicians, who have refused to speak out about fuel shortages before, strikes by university professors, the high cost of living, the non- payment of wages when due, lack of electricity and others, and are talking now are friends of Nigerians.

"They are not. They are only protecting their interests and those of their political parties, which is not in the interest of the country."

Secondus, who is the technical adviser to PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, also commended the members of the State Council for supporting CBN policy and conducting the elections as planned by the Independent National Electoral Commission, saying he was sure his candidate would win the election, just as he condemned the violence against the party in Rivers State.
