Customs intercept 80,000 liters of adulterated diesel in Ogun

Officers from the Federal Operations Unit Area A of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted two tank trucks loaded with 80,055 liters of poor quality automotive gas oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, in the area from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The unit's Acting Comptroller, Hussein Ejibunu, who on Wednesday handed over the petroleum product to Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA) officials, said the truck drivers escaped after seeing customs officers on patrol. /p>

After a careful study of the documents used to transport the product and analyzes of samples, it was discovered that the papers were counterfeit and that the diesel was of poor quality.

He said customs had written to NMDPRA to verify the condition of the products and the authenticity of the documents found in the vehicles, both of which were confirmed to be fake.

Giving a breakdown of the seizures and details of the means of transport, the Acting Controller said that one of the tankers with registration number DBT 599 XA was loaded with 44,450 liters while the another with registration number USL 561 ZC had 35,605 liters of AGO.

Patrick Musa, an NMDPRA official, upon receiving the seizures, explained that the products were found to be out of specification and did not meet approved standards for use in Nigeria.

He added that the product could not have been collected from any authorized depot in the country. Musa congratulated the Nigeria Customs Service on the seizure which he described as a good start to a productive synergy between NMDPRA and NCS.
