Enyimba and Remo Stars suffer from early CAF Champions League eliminations
Nigerian Premier Football League sides Enyimba International and Remo Stars have both been knocked out of the CAF Champions League prematurely following disappointing results in their return matches on Sunday.
Enyimba, a two-time African champion, needed at least a 1-0 home win over Libya's Al Ahly Benghazi to overturn a 4-3 first-leg deficit.
However, they were held to a goalless draw in Aba on Sunday, meaning they were knocked out of the competition earlier than expected.
The Remo Stars also failed in their quest to progress to the next phase of the Champions League, losing 3-2 on penalties to Ghana's Medeama SC after the two sides drew 1-1 in two matches. p>
The departures of Enyimba and Remo Stars leave only Bendel Insurance as Nigeria's only representative on the continent at the CAF Confederation Cup.
Bendel Insurance beat Algerian Aso Chlef on penalties on Saturday after the two teams went 1-1 in two matches.

Enyimba dominated possession for much of the game, but they couldn't create enough clear chances.
The Remo Stars, on the other hand, were the better team in their second leg against Medeama SC.
However, they were undone by poor finishing and a lack of composure in the penalty shootout.
The early departures of Enyimba and Remo Stars are a blow to Nigerian football, but they also provide an opportunity for Bendel Insurance to leave its mark on the continent after nearly two decades away. p> Support the honest and credible journalism of PREMIUM TIMES Good journalism is very expensive.
