EPL: Rio Ferdinand picks better player between Chelsea's Reece James and Liverpool's Alexander-Arnold
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand thinks Chelsea's Reece James is better than Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold at the moment.
Ferdinand said James was a better full-back overall as he praised his defensive traits.
While praising Alexander-Arnold for his passing quality, Ferdinand insisted that James could score more goals than his English counterpart.
When asked to choose between the two players if, hypothetically, he should lead the England national football team at the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five podcast: "It's tough. We're going where we are right now.
"Reece James is ahead of Trent at the moment. If I'm a winger, I'm looking at who I don't want to play against the most between them and that would be Reece."
Ferdinand added: "I think physically he can compete with people defensively, and going forward is ridiculous. Trent's passing, I would say, is arguably better at varying distances, but I think that Reece will score more goals. He's so in there [the penalty area].
"You could play Trent there too and he would lead it and both could come here [midfield]. That's the only thing, he plays that position week after week. Trent plays more from the back right when going into things.
