FG to Contractor: Acquire Gas Engines for Kano-Maradi Railway
The Federal Government has asked Mota-Eñgil, Nigeria Limited, the contractor for the Kano-Maradi Railway project, to consider purchasing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas ( LPG) over Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) Engines for Rail Line Rolling Stock for more environmentally friendly operation.
According to a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Dr. Magdalene Ajani signed the agreement on behalf of the Federal Government for Mota-Eñgil, Nigeria Limited to supply rolling stock, operate and maintain the equipment for Kano-Maradi Standard Railway Line.
While acknowledging that this may not have been in the original agreement and could incur additional costs, she stressed that it was the right way forward to control the adverse effects of global warming.
