Gombe guber: Governor Inuwa's desperate threat to peaceful elections - PDP

By: Ishola Michael – Gombe

The Campaign Council of the main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has alleged that recent events in the state, just five days away from gubernatorial elections and in the state assembly, showed that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is desperately seeking re-election by all means outside of democratic frameworks through his various projects that are coming to the fore.

The PDP therefore draws the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Security Advisor, election observers and other relevant stakeholders to the fact that Inuwa Yahaya has led his re-election bid down the dangerous path of do or die which is not a practice that should be encouraged.

According to Council Spokesperson Junaid Usman, "In a leaked audio, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya was heard discussing the following plans and confirming that: The IG has deployed an entire mobile police unit (including more of 60 NPF officers under the command of ACP KHAN USMAN SALIHU) to intimidate and harass voters to bring him to power."

He further stated that he "threatened to remove/hand over the Nigerian Army 301 Artillery Commander in Gombe who is clearly trying to ensure peace in Gombe. Possible BVAS machine bypass to compromise elections.”

The Aid opined that "this, if left unresolved, could disrupt the peace that reigns in the state, cause chaos and derail the elections that President Muhammadu Buhari has promised Nigerians and to the international community, will be peaceful and the outcome credible and reflect the wish of the people.”

According to him, "From the looks of things, Gov Inuwa, having fallen out with the people, is working diligently to impose himself on the people through rigging, vote buying, using violence to scare people out of voting among other anti-democratic measures."

Junaid Usman added that "It is also to call on the national police leadership and other security agencies to focus on Gombe State as the Governor's attempt to force his return to power may cost the state peace if all plans are initiated by APC were allowed to be implemented.”

Junaidu Usman Abubakar, PDP Deputy Director General on Media, Atiku/Danbarde Campaign Management Board, Gombe State, said that "the People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Gombe , the unstoppable rise in popularity of Muhammad Jibrin Barde has been a serious cause for concern for the ruling APC-led government in the state."

According to him, "Barde has done his homework and the people of Gombe are now determined to bring the PDP back to power after tasting the poor governance of the APC in Gombe State."

Recall that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council in Gombe State had sounded the alarm over a smear plot against Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who is the candidate for the post governor of the party in the next elections.
