CIPC accuses TASUED lecturer of demanding sex and money from student

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) has indicted Dr. Balogun Olaniran, a senior lecturer at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).

Head of Religious Studies Department at Ijagun Institution, Ogun State is accused of demanding sex and money from an undergraduate student.

Olaniran is on trial before Judge Osinuga of the High Court sitting in Ijebu Ode on one count of breach of Section 8(1)(a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Offenses Act 2000 related.

Between October and November 2021, the accused allegedly demanded a sexual benefit or N100,000 from the student with a promise.

ICPC told the court that Olaniran offered to change his academic grades “from failing to passing in courses coded EDU 311 and EDU 312.”

After pleading 'not guilty' when the charge was read, Judge Osinuga admitted him to bond of 500,000 naira with bail of a similar amount.

The judge also ordered the surety to justify 3 years of tax clearance and proof of resources.

The lecturer will return to court on the adjourned date, May 11, 2023, for the start of the trial.
